Care should be taken to select a chain that complements your cameo jewel. The chain should be at least 1/8 ” in thickness to ensure that it is strong enough to suspend the cameo pendant .
I would suggest that the chain should match the color of the Cameo frame. Choose yellow gold chains for gold frames and white gold or Platinum chains for white color cameo settings.
The length of the gold chain decides where on the neck a Cameo pendant is displayed. Chains of 20” to 24” are the standard choice.
The style of gold chain that you buy affects its strength, choose a thicker chain for larger pendants.
Cameo pendants can also be worn with a strand of pearls. A special hinged clasp called a pearl enhancer is needed for this purpose. I can make these on request.
Types of Gold Chains for a Cameo Pendant
Gold Cable Necklet: This is a solid necklet that is made of twisted wire to form a cable. They are stiffer than a normal chain and are very strong. Cables retain a circular shape around the neck when worn, where chains pull to a V shape when holding a Pendant.
Gold Curb Chain: A curb chain is made up of oval shaped links that are often diamond cut to lay flat. A curb chain maintains good strength and is recommended for pendants.
Gold Barleycorn Chain: This is made up of long twisting links. This is another chain that is both distinctive in design and is very suitable for cameo pendants.
Gold Belcher or Cable Chain: This is made up of metal rings joined together. The Cable chain uses half round wire and the Belcher chain uses flat rectangular wire.
Gold Figaro Chain: This is made up of elongated rings joined together. This is another strong and flexible chain, good for Cameo pendants.
Gold Snake Chain: This is made up of metal rings joined together one on top of another. This chain looks similar to the cable necklet but it is more flexible so it pulls into a V shape when worn around the neck.

Gold chains are typically sold by weight. This will depend on both the thickness and the length of a chain.
I can supply necklace chains in Silver, Platinum and Gold. Yellow Gold chains are in 18kt and 22kt. While White Gold necklace chains are available in 18 kt only.

When considering the size of gold chain to purchase, you first need to know your neck size. Always choose a size that is at least 1” to 2” bigger than the measurement of your neck.
