Pet Portrait Cameos and Nature engravings

A portrait carving of an Alsatian pet called Sheba. By carving the top black layer to have different thicknesses I can create shading effects that add to the sense of life in the portrait.
A view of the Sheba dog cameo before it is set in the gold frame.

The original photo of an Angelfish that was used for the carving in Lapis Lazuli.

This is the slice of Lapis that was sourced from the mountains of Afghanistan. This was bought from a dealer in Kabul by a friend of mine. I have around 2 kilos of this very fine Lapis-Lazuli in stock.
A double sided carving in Lapis Lazuli of an Angelfish. As the carving is identical on both sides it can be worn facing to either the right or the left.
One of my very favorite hand engravings. The subject is a Lynx engraved in side profile. This won a top award in the British Goldsmiths Craft Council competition.
An engraving of a Cougar mountain lion resting on a tree branch. This is another of my very favorite engravings.
This signet ring was carved with a Mockingbird for a client in Canada.
A different version of the Mockingbird natutre study. This is carved from a brown on white cameo stone.
This engraving of two squirrels on copper won first prize in the British Goldsmiths Craft Council competition.
Silver engraving of a Golden Retriever dog.
A lovely cameo of a squirrel. This was carved into blue agate.
Hand engraving of four crests that all feature animals in their design.
A large 18 kt gold ring carved with a Chinese dragon in high relief.
A side view of the Chinese dragon ring.
This slideshow displays gemstone carvings and hand engravings of animals.
Cameo Carvings of Pets
Portraits of a favorite pet can be carved in a variety of materials. They look especially effective in brown on white layered agate as in my cameo of 'Sheba'
The blue agate cameo study of a Squirrel shows another technique that can be used for an animal portrait.
Gemstone Carvings of Animals
My pendant with a carving in Lapis Lazuli of an Angelfish is a good example of how a favorite animal or totem can be made into a unique jewel.
Wildlife hand engravings
These subjects are hand engraved onto either silver or gold. I include examples of nature studies which have always been an interest of mine. I am very fond of my Cougar bracelet and my Lynx engraving on silver.
I also show a gold ring which has been carved in high relief with the design of a Chinese dragon.
